Pygmalion and My Fair Lady
George Bernard Shaw; and Alan Jay Lerner and Frederick Loewe
Director Concept: Set in a post-apocalyptic setting taking inspiration from “Pearly Kings and Queens” of England.
Design Concept: Worshiping at the shrine of steam and shine
Exercise: I wanted to design costumes for Pygmalion and My Fair Lady with the same concept to learn the differences in designing for a play and for a musical.
I used more vibrant colors for My Fair Lady, and a more muted color palate for Pygmalion.
I used more detail and texture for My Fair Lady than for Pygmalion.
I also designed costumes for My Fair Lady to allow for a greater range of motion than those for Pygmalion.
Medium: Colored pencil and graphite pencil
