Devising Process: This piece was created based on interviews the production team collected from individuals who identified with their gender and/or sexual orientation as being on the LGBTQIA+ spectrum.
Director’s Concept: Self Portrait
Designer’s Concept: Being a complexly fluid part of the global community is more than is required to be enough.
“Complexly”- I wanted to capture this by using power clashing of patterns, textures and vibrant colors.
“Fluid”- I wanted to capture this by designing costumes the actors could move and dance freely in.
“Community”- I wanted my color palate to visually capture the rainbow colors found in the LGBTQIA+ pride flag. I designated each character to be grounded in a specific color based on the color’s symbolism in the flag.
